The Calling

The coyote calls,
Into the darkness of the night,
Half lonely, half connected.

The yelp and howl,
Echoes down the road,
Drawing on my heartstrings.

The sound reaches my ears,
Through the noise of the T.V.,
I mute my sound,
Connecting to the song,
From outside.

Suddenly I am in the night,
Howling to the far reaches,
Enjoying my solitude,
Enjoying the connections to my pack.

I don't have to be right next to them to know,
We share the same needs,
We hunt the same prey.

"Where are you? I am here!"
"I am here! Where are you?"

Family is bound in,
Packs and dens,
We are resilient through the darkness,
And productive in the light.
